The sound recordings are the authoritative version of the speeches in this collection. Listeners are reminded that the recorded speeches are, for the most part, recreations of earlier presentations. The editors prepared the transcriptions for this project; unclear or unintelligible passages are bracketed.
Every phonograph record label in the Library's Nation's Forum collection was reproduced for the American Memory edition; not every source recording has a label.
The portraits of the speakers were selected by the editors. These portraits have been drawn from the collections of the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. The Portrait Captions List provides the associated photograph's caption (and reproduction number, if there is one.) To order black and white glossy reproductions of these pictures, contact the Photoduplication Division of the Library of Congress.
